Welcome to Hertefeld

Turm The baroque castle Hertefeld, earlier a historically important 14th
century manor, is located on the banks of the River Niers in Weeze
(Lower Rhine Region). For almost seven hundred years it has been in
the possession of one and the same family, today called the Princes
of Eulenburg and Hertefeld.

In its eventful history the original castle has been rebuilt many times.
In 1700 it was transformed into a moated baroque castle, then it
continued to exist in various guises until April 1945, when it was
destroyed by world war confusions. In 1995 the castle ruins were
secured in its original shape, and was finally partly rebuilt in 2004.
From spring 2005 visitors can stay overnight in one of the following
six exclusive guest rooms:
  • three apartments located in one wing of the still intact administrative
    building
  • one room in the former guard house in the park and
  • two imaginatively designed guest rooms in the ruin itself, where historic
tower has been carefully rebuilt. Thus for the first time since 1945, it is
possible to stay overnight in the venerable walls of a secured castle ruin.

Breakfast is served in either the fire-place hall, the house’s cross vault or
in good weather, outside amongst the ruins.

The whole monument is situated in a spacious park and is therefore well suited
to festive events, exclusive conferences, and theatre or film showings.
